Oppo has teased its new wireless charging technology at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2021. The Wireless Air Charging solution powers the battery wirelessly even when the device is in the air, without any cables. Oppo’s new Wireless Air Charging tech was showcased in a video, and the company is likely to improve the solution before commercially rolling it out. Oppo’s domestic rival Xiaomi had also teased a similar wireless-air charging tech back in January. Xiaomi called it the Mi Air Charge technology.

The new Oppo Wireless Air Charging tech was showcased as a part of its new flash charging project: The Flash Initiative. In the video we can see, the OPPO X 2021 rollable OLED screen smartphone on a wooden charging pad. The phone starts charging as soon as the device touches the surfaces. However, the battery continues to power up even when the device is lifted a few inches above the surface. It is likely the radius of the wireless charging solution is limited to a small distance.
